Small in size, but large in talent, is how Slovenia could be qualified. The Julian Alps and eastern Slovenia have roads and scenery from your motorcycle wish list. Enjoy winding through rolling back country hills that make riding exciting and a real adventure, taste delicious food and find out all about the friendliness of the local people.

Rich in resources, naturally good-looking and persistently peaceful, Slovenia still remains a wonderful antidote to much of Europe's crowds and high prices. The friendly, mostly English-speaking Slovenians, beautiful sights everywhere, little traffic and stunning scenery help to make this an unforgettable week.

This tour is available for CUSTOM GROUPS only. We can adjust the itinerary according to your wishes. Please contact us for more details.

Day by day

Day by day

Day 1: Ljubljana

Dobrodosli! Welcome to Slovenia!

We will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The guides will meet you in the hotel at 2 pm for the introductory briefing and short introductory ride around the countryside to familiarize you with your motorcycle. That night, you will experience a traditional Slovene meal and excellent wine, and we'll conduct a short tour briefing.

Day 2: Ljubljana – Jeruzalem

Today you leave Ljubljana to travel the scenic route north, covering some beautiful Alpine country.

You ride up the valley of the river Kokra to arrive at Jezersko from where you cross to Austria for a couple of kilometers. After crossing back to Slovenia you descend to the Logarska valley, one of the most beautiful glacially formed Alpine valleys in Europe, surrounded by peaks over 2.200 m high. After lunch, you follow the Savinja River on a twisty road heading east to reach our small hotel in Jeruzalem, surrounded by scenic vineyards. Jeruzalem was named by the Crusaders when the beauty of the hilly landscape and its wines enthralled them on their way to the Holy Land.

Day 3: Jeruzalem – Novo Mesto

From Jeruzalem, we head south through the wine growing region of Haloze and into Kozjansko, one of the remotest areas in Slovenia.

It is a region of forests, vineyards, rolling hills, scattered farms and a large number of castles. Riding over these hills is an absolute delight and a real feast for your eyes. We stop at the Podsreda Castle and have a picnic lunch with a view of this remarkable fortification. In the afternoon we do some more riding before arriving at Otocec castle, which is one of Slovenia's loveliest and most complete fortresses. Today the castle, which dates from the 16th century, houses a five-star hotel.

Day 4: Novo Mesto - Portoroz

Today we'll visit Predjama Castle.

Situated in the gaping mouth of a cavern halfway up a 130 meter cliff, this medieval castle has one of the most dramatic settings anywhere and was once home of Erazem Lueger, the Slovenian equivalent of Robin Hood. Next you explore Skocjan caves which, with their 100 meter deep underground canyon and vast chambers, have no comparison in the world and are included in Unesco's World Heritage Sites list. You might want to visit famous Postojna cave instead, into which you take a train. In the afternoon we ride to Portoroz, Slovenia's most coastal resort.

Day 5: Rest day in Portoroz

Spend the rest day relaxing on the Slovenian coast or hop on the bike and explore the quiet back country roads of Slovenian and Croatian Istria, the biggest peninsula in the Adriatic.

You can stroll around Piran, Portoroz's neighbor, and everyone's favorite town on the Slovenian coast. Piran's Old Town is a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture and is full of narrow streets. Other excellent options include a visit to the Secovlje salt fields or a ride to the Istria peninsula, where truffles, Roman ruins, striking hill towns, quaint coastal villages, and breezy Italian culture all compete for your attention.

Day 6: Portoroz - Bovec

Today you will enter the valley of the Soca River, famous for its deep, almost unreal, turquoise color.

During WWI, this area of peace and tranquility was the site of the infamous Isonzo Front. You'll ride past Kobarid, Tolmin and many little villages. This scenic route is nice and twisty through beautiful forests-- excellent for motorcyclists. We end the day in Bovec, an exhilarating alpine resort, perfect for both adventurers and leisure seekers. In the afternoon you can take a cable car to the Kanin ski station, play golf, go fishing, horseback ride, mountain bike, swim or visit the WWI Kobarid museum, the best European museum in 1993. Or you can go whitewater rafting on the untamed Soca river or if you feel really adventurous.

Day 7: Bovec – Bled

In the morning you navigate one of the nicest roads in Slovenia through the Trenta valley, climb up Vrsic Pass (1611m) with its spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and then descend to Kranjska Gora and Planica where the World Cup Slalom and Ski Jumping World Championships are held every year.

You then ride to Bled, indisputably one of Europe's most beautiful lakes and mountain resorts. With its emerald-green water, picture-postcard church on an islet, medieval castle clinging to a rocky cliff more than 100m above the lake, and some of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps, Bled is Slovenia's most popular resort.

Day 8: Bled – Ljubljana

You'll ride to the peaceful Bohinj Lake in the morning. Hike to Savica, a magnificent 60m waterfall cutting deep into a gorge and one of the most impressive sights in the Julian Alps.

Dive into the clear green lake or take a cable car to Vogel ski station some 1000m above the lake. You continue the ride on twisty roads passing the attractive historical towns of Radovljica and Kropa to arrive at the hotel in Ljubljana.

Day 9: Ljubljana, flight home

In the morning, you can stroll the old part of the city, including the colourful antique market. The quaint, narrow streets along the right bank of the Ljubljanica River, with its medieval bridges, are reminiscent of Prague without the crowds.

Depending on the time of your flight back home, you may have time to climb the staircase to the 16th century fortification of Ljubljana Castle that dominates the town before heading out to the airport.

Motorcycle tour of Slovenia - why not?

06. 11. 2023

How much do you know about Slovenia? If you are like many people, especially non-Europeans, the answer is probably “not very much”. In almost every travel article I’ve read, this small, northernmost Balkan country is called the “undiscovered gem of Europe”.
