Benvenuti a Roma! We’ll begin and end our tour in magnificent Rome, home to the ancient Forum and the Colosseum.

Next is Naples and then a ferry ride to indescribable Sicily where we’ll ride narrow, twisty roads through stunning scenery, experiencing ancient cultures, cuisine, and whispers of past Mafia mischief along the way.

We’ll head back to the mainland along the Amalfi coastal road, arguably the world’s most beautiful, past steep cliffs and the enticing, village of Positano. Our last stop before returning to Rome will be Pompeii, a reminder of the powerful forces that lie deep within the volcano Mt. Vesuvius.

Day by day

Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Rome/Frascati

Welcome to Rome!

We will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on when you arrive, you'll have some time to relax and lap up the dolce vita lifestyle. This luxurious, eternal city of love is your host for the day, before you meet the guides for the introductory briefing and start your riding adventure. The tour starting point is in Frascati, an attractive historic hill-town, located just 20 kilometers south-east of Rome, easily reachable by train. It is a very convenient place to start the tour avoiding the heavy traffic in Rome. At 4 PM, we'll meet for the introductory briefing and in the evening go for a welcome dinner at a traditional Italian trattoria.

Day 2: Rome/Frascati - Naples (ferry to Palermo, Sicily)

We begin the road trip heading southeast of Rome, tasting the “real” Italy.

The roads wind along the seaside, revealing the shades of blue, while we ride some nice bends all the way to Naples. We'll stop for lunch in radiantly white Sperlonga, overlooking the impossibly blue Tyrrhenian Sea—for a soothing taste of la dolce vita. Visiting the gorgeous Mastio Angioino castle only a hundred meters away from the Naples's port is the waving goodbye point before we embark on an overnight ferry voyage for Sicily. There's more yet to come!

Day 3: Palermo

After docking at Palermo and enjoying breakfast on the bustling streets of this city, a radical change of scenery awaits us, with many exciting kilometers to ride.

After breakfast we'll start riding to the island's western end, well known for its salt plains where so called white gold is still produced in the traditional way. Scenic wind mills around Trapani give a special atmosphere to the large flat plains. We'll welcome Erice, magnificent medieval town on the top of the hill with splendid views over the west coast. We will visit Castellmare del Golfo for lunch and return to Palermo in the afternoon to explore this exciting city.

Day 4: Palermo - Agrigento

We proceed inland in the direction of Corleone, "the city of hundred churches," which has gained notoriety because of the Mafia, both the film depiction and the reality.

Agrigento is our next stop to in the fascinating Valley of the Temples, a Unesco world heritage site. This is one of the most important sites in the Mediterranean, boasting the largest and best-preserved ancient Greek buildings, including seven monumental Greek temples constructed during the 6th and 5th centuries B.C.

Day 5: Agrigento - Syracuse

Nice riding awaits, heading north-east, amongst neat lines of vineyards.

We'll pass by Caltagirone, a centre of ceramic art and reach Noto on southeastern part of the island. The city is home to one of Sicily's most beautiful historic centers, flanked by thrilling baroque palazzi and churches. Although it has existed here for many centuries, the Noto that you see today dates to the early 18th century, when it was almost entirely rebuilt following the devastating 1693 earthquake. We continue our ride north and finish the day in Syracuse, a city known for it's  ancient ruins.

Day 6: Syracuse Rest Day

In its heyday, Syracuse was the largest city in the ancient world, bigger even than Athens and Corinth.

Echoes of ancient civilizations still resound in the streets of this coastal city. We will spend our rest day here exploring the old town and it`s surroundings.

Day 7: Syracuse - Cefalu

It’s leisure time!

Leaving this Syracuse behind, we continue on the twisty roads to Cefalu. The squares, streets and churches of this medieval town are so postcard-pretty that we just have to explore the narrow, cobbled streets of the town, ending the day with a dinner in the nice atmosphere of this little port. The small town of Cefalù has bucketfuls of atmosphere, charm – and sand! It has been featured in several Italian films, including the Oscar-winning Cinema Paradiso. The beautiful, crescent-shaped beach offers safe, warm swimming in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is fringed by wooded mountains. Just a few miles inland lies the wonderful Madonie natural park, incorporating historic villages, abundant wildlife and some of the highest mountains in Sicily.

Day 8: Cefalu - Taormina

Leaving Cefalu, we’ll ride some excellent, twisty roads to the regional parks of Madonie and Nebrodi, which run along northeast Sicily facing the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Several of the peaks are above 1500 meters high, forming the Sicilian Apennines. In the afternoon, we ride into the ancient town of Taormina. A small, chic town, located on the top of the hill, it has been a tourist resort since ancient times, thanks to its favorable locale, mild climate and magical atmosphere. All day long the magnificent Mount Etna above us will be a temptation for the next day.

Day 9: Rest day in Taormina (Etna loop)

With its stunning beaches and glowing sunrises, Taormina is a magnet for beauty and adventure lovers.

While it is unashamedly touristy and has a main street lined with high-end designer shops, the town remains a beautiful spot with gorgeous medieval churches, a stunning Greek theatre and sweeping views of the Gulf of Naxos and Mt Etna. If you feel like riding today, take the twisty road up to this fabulous mountain, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Due to its natural beauty and rich flora and fauna, Mount Etna was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 10: Taormina - Tropea

From the shining orange of Sicily citrus trees to the turquoise beaches of Tropea, a transition in scenery between Sicily and Calabria is simply stunning.

The contrast of colors, habits and panoramas will amaze you. Leaving Sicily, we take a short ferry ride across to Calabria, heading north to enjoy some coastal riding all the way to Tropea. The town is perched on top of an imposing cliff on the gulf of St. Euphemia. This stretch of coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea is called the Costa degli Dei – the "Coast of the Gods" and is one of Italy's finest summer holiday destinations.

Day 11: Tropea - Maratea

Our ride for today is all about pristine nature and stunning views.

Heading inland we leave Tropea behind to explore the national park of La Sila Grande, continuing onwards to Maratea. Contrasting sharply with Basilicata's rugged isolated interior, Maratea is the antithesis of the rest of the region. Embellished with lush vegetation, sheltered coves and well-tended cliff-side villages, Maratea's latent joys are not dissimilar to those on the Amalfi – but there are fewer people enjoying them.

Day 12: Maratea - Amalfi

Time to move up north to the Costiera Amalfitana!

The route is bending up into the wild landscapes of oak forests in natural park of Cilento. After an unbeatable mountain ride the scenery changes from mountainous to costal, riding some nice flats, visiting Greek temples in Paestum before we reach the heart of the fabulous Costiera. We overnight in vivid Amalfi surrounded by thousands of sparkling lights.

Day 13: Rest day in Amalfi

The Amalfi coast will make you giddy – and that’s not just because its famously winding coastal road involves impossibly steep mountain sides and even longer drops.

No, it's because the place is both astoundingly beautiful and impossibly glamorous; artists, writers and movie stars all flocking here to find anything from sunshine to inspiration. You can cruise down to the glamorous downtown of Positano and picturesque Ravello to indulge in the Italian lifestyle. Or you can explore the nearby excavations of Pompeii. This city, buried in two days when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, offers a fascinating snapshot of ancient Roman life.

Day 14: Amalfi - Rome/Frascati

Waving goodbye to Amalfi, we’ll head back to the place where it all began.

Thoughts of the journey from Sicily to the Amalfi will occupy the ride to Rome as we'll be riding to Frascati, our final stop.

Day 15: Flight home to Rome

All roads lead to Rome.

And here we are. If you fly out later in the day, you'll have a chance to spend some more time to explore this eternal city. You will say goodbye to our guides and new friends and wish everyone many safe rides in the future.

Where would you like to ride if the sky was the limit?

08. 04. 2022

Back in 2021 when we were on our custom Top of the Alps tour our guide got a question from two simple guys who love riding: " We want to see the best parts of southern Italy and the Balkans, could you set up a tour, just for the two of us?"
