Home to storybook castles, you'll see King Ludwig II’s beloved Neuschwanstein and medieval walled towns originally built of timber-framed houses.

From Munich, the capital of Bavaria, we head south towards Austria to explore parts of the German Alpine road, racing over the rolling hills to salute spectacular Switzerland. Winding up sinuous mountain roads, we ride deep into the Black Forest where numerous hairpin bends complement the faster pace. Emerging from the forest, we enter the lovely, open landscape of the Alsace wine producing region in France at a more relaxed pace. From Roman ruins to the fortified walls of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the region is nothing short of idyllic.

Our invitation goes out to all history lovers and adventure seekers. The combination of top-notch riding and stunning scenery will simply make you wish your road trip took longer.

Day 1: Arrival in Munich/Freising

Welcome to Germany!

We will greet you at the Munich airport and take you to the hotel in Freising. Located about 25 minutes to the north of Munich, Freising is the oldest city in Bavaria with an almost 1300 year history. Take some time to rest or do some sightseeing before the tour briefing. If you arrive early, you can take the train to Munich. A short ride brings you to the capital of beautiful Bavaria. This city has a lot to offer, whether you are interested in history, parks, beer gardens or shopping. At 4 PM we'll meet for an introductory meeting and wrap up our first day in a traditional restaurant, toasting with one of the many craft beers Bavaria is known for. ˝Prost!˝

Day 2: Munich - Füssen

We will spend much of today meandering southward through pastoral Bavaria, past crystal blue lakes and inviting medieval towns, and Linderhof, the king’s private retreat near Garmisch in the Wetterstein Mountains.

Garmisch is also a home to every year’s BMW Motorrad days, a great experience for any motorcyclist. We’ll begin encountering some gentle sweepers riding toward Austria, connecting to the famous German “Alpine Road” all the way to Füssen. This city is the southernmost point of the famous "Romantic Road" and is the perfect place from which to visit the royal palace of Neuschweinstein, the model for Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Day 3: Füssen - Lake Constance

Today, we’ll make time to visit one of the famous King Ludwig’s Castles—Neuschwanstein. The castle was one of three palaces built by the Swan King and would eventually become the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s movie Sleeping Beauty.

We will take a guided tour before continuing our scenic and exhilarating ride through the rolling landscape to Lake Constance on the Rhine at the northern foot of the Alps. Known as Bodensee in German, this largest lake in Central Europe is situated at the intersection of Switzerland/Germany/Austria. Our stay for the night is on the historic island of Lindau, surrounded by a luscious green environment and snow-covered mountains.

Day 4: Lake Constance - Ribeauville

Through a picturesque landscape we cross into Switzerland to witness Europe’s mightiest waterfall, the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen.

With a width of 150 meters, the Rhine drops (coming from Lake Constance) over the rocks from a height of 23 meters. In search for the smoothest roads, we’ll be leaving Switzerland, heading to the Southern Black Forest, riding undulating, sweeping and often spectacular roads in this part of the Germany. In the second half of the day we ride past Freiburg, crossing to France, partially connecting to the Alsace Wine Route with its picturesque villages like Ribeauville and Colmar, into the impressive Vosges Mountains, covering a large area of the Alsacian territory.

Day 5: Ribeauville rest day

Alsace, part of the new French region, has alternated between German and French control over the centuries, and the result reflects an incredible mix of both cultures.

The region boasts a remarkable architectural legacy. Timber-framed houses, generally characterized by flat clay tiles and half-timbered building fronts, are found in both the cities and the countryside. We will get to indulge ourselves by tasting famous Alsatian wines that are not produced anywhere else in France and fabulous cuisine. The most eager riders can tackle another adventure, riding an exciting loop on twisty, hilly roads to Vosges Regional Natural Park.

Day 6: Ribeauville - Black Forest

Get ready for another great riding day! We’ll head toward Germany again, riding deep into the dense Black Forest along the famous route B 500. You’ll experience a blend of hairpins, lefts, rights and long, fast sweepers.

This is a spectacular ride, exploring the rich and verdant countryside, dotted with pretty villages, the highest of Germany’s waterfalls in the city of Triberg and its Black Forest Museum, well known for the famous cuckoo clocks. Passing the spa town of Baden-Baden we will end the day in northern Black Forest.

Day 7: Black Forest - Rothenburg ob der Tauber

One can definitely feel “royal” today, as we will be following the exciting Castle trail, known as Burgenstrasse in German.

The name of this east to west route speaks for itself, lined castle to castle through romantic medieval towns for almost 1200 km. The scenic ride will follow the Neckar River through beautiful countryside. We will enjoy medieval masterpieces and a variety of period costume performances at festivals amid authentic surroundings and medieval markets. These vivid experiences will end in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany's best-preserved walled town in the Franconian heartland.

Day 8: Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Munich

More scenic riding awaits today, as we descend into the idyllic Altmühl Valley, winding through colorful Bavarian landscape, with churches and abbeys, stunning palaces and lofty castles.

We’ll be passing Ingolstadt, known for its Audi Automobile Museum, devoted to the history of Audi and its predecessors and the focal point of the Audi Forum Ingolstadt. By late afternoon, Munich will greet us once more. That evening, we'll meet for our farewell dinner.

Day 9: Munich/ Freising departure

This morning you will say good bye to your guides and new friends until we meet again for another adventure.

If you have an afternoon flight planned, you can walk the Old Town and enjoy the local sites once more before returning home filled with great memories.
